BETWEEN HER TEETH
A cigarette is a decision. Between her teeth, it becomes punctuation. She does not smoke to be noticed. She smokes to slow the frame. To hold the body in place long enough for meaning to form. The pause is deliberate. The posture exact. Smoke hangs in the air like her lipstick stained to the cracks of her lips. Not indulgence. Not escape. A controlled risk, repeated until it becomes language. Inhale. Hold. Release. She knows when to stop. That is the discipline. Her body moves with structure. Angled against glass, concrete, steel. The city offers no response. It never does. She does not ask for one. This is not romance. It is restraint. A refusal to soften. A refusal to explain.
The cigarette shortens. She remains. What stays is control.
What disappears is everything else.
